Automaker GAC has come to this year’s Chengdu Motor Show with a large seven-seat SUV named Trumpchi ES9. According to AutoHome, it is just the flagship spec of the second-generation GS8 model, and is set to go on sale later this year.
With a body length of 4,980 mm and a wheelbase of 2,920 mm, the newcomer is identical in size to the GS8. It received new bumpers and radiator grille, gloss-black fender trims and a tailgate box. With the box attached, the length becomes 5,115 mm.
The interior has been borrowed from the GS8 without any major modifications. There is still a three-spoke steering wheel, two standalone displays for the digital dashboard and the infotainment system, and a broad center console between the front seats.
Unlike the GS8, which only has one hybrid spec and no plug-in functionality, the ES9 is a full-fledged PHEV. It means you can top up its battery and cover up to 110 km (68 miles) in all-electric mode. The drivetrain includes a 190-PS (187-hp / 140-kW) 2.0-liter turbo, an electric motor and 25.6 kWh worth of battery cells.
