Geely unveils the Starray, a Boyue L for exports

Geely has presented a ‘new’ SUV named Starray, which is already available for ordering in Quwait and Saudi Arabia. In reality, the vehicle is a rebadged Geely Boyue L.

The Boyue L debuted last summer as the renamed second generation of the Geely Atlas. Compared to it, the Starray is notably different in terms of both the appearance and the powertrain. It is larger in size, based on Volvo’s CMA architecture and running on Volvo engines.

On its domestic market, the original SUV is available with two 1.5T engines to choose between. The cheaper option makes 181 PS (179 hp / 133 kW) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque. The more expensive one produces 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and 325 Nm (240 lb-ft). Both use a seven-speed DCT transmission to drive the front wheels with no AWD on the options list.

Out of these two powertrains, the Starray for export markets only gets the superior one. The torque in the Middle Eastern version gets additionally boosted to 350 Nm (258 lb-ft). As a result, the SUV can sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.2 seconds.

Likewise, only the more expensive trim options are offered abroad: LED lighting, 18-inch wheels, HVAC, keyless entry and rain sensor are all included in the base trim level. The dash and infotainment displays measure 10.25 and 13.2 inches across, respectively, and a number of driving aids are provided as standard.
