New GMA T.50s sets a lap record in Bahrain

Even before the production started, the track-only GMA T.50s “Niki Lauda” supercar hit the international racetrack in Bahrain to finish it in 1:53.03, coming ahead of every other GT3 racer to ever attempt the highly technical lap.

The new record was set by professional racing driver Dario Franchitti. According to him, he managed to accelerate to 296 km/h (183.9 mph) during the run and had to contend with g-forces reaching 3g when braking. Gordon Murray Automotive says it specifically picked the Bahrain raceway for its challenging layout and high air temperatures this time of the year. Despite the hot weather, Franchitti managed to improve the previous best time in the GT3 category by whopping seven seconds.

The GMA T.50s comes equipped with a 3.9-liter, naturally aspirated V12 capable of revving up to 11,500 RPM. It produces a solid 761 PS (750 hp / 560 kW) and sends the momentum to the wheels via a six-speed semi-auto transmission. A bespoke body kit grants it up to 1,199 kg (2,643 pounds) of downforce.

Only 25 units will be made, each priced from $4,000,000 USD, but the company claims it has already sold out the entire batch. The model T.50s isn’t street-legal, anyway, so those interested in driving one may consider settling for a “normal” GMA T.50.
