Honda HR-V bows in the USA, is different from the rest

The next generation of the Honda HR-V is already available for purchase in many countries around the world, but the U.S. spec has only just debuted. More importantly still, it is not the same vehicle at all.

In fact, the North American HR-V is based on the ZR-V crossover that debuted in China not long ago. It shares the platform with the Civic and has per-wheel suspension in the back. Thanks to being based on a different vehicle architecture, it is larger than the international HR-V model at 4,567 mm (178 inches) long and 1,839 mm (72 inches) wide, and consequently has more legroom inside.

There is very little between the ZR-V for China and the HR-V for the USA that differentiates them. The list boils down to the wheels, exhaust system layout and sunroof design, while the rest stays identical.

In its basic form, the new HR-V packs 10 airbags, a full suite of Honda safety aids, and adaptive cruise control. Power is sourced from a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine with 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW) and 187 Nm (138 lb-ft) of torque. Buyers can choose between FWD and AWD.
