Iran’s new liftback isn’t new and isn’t Iran’s, either

Iran-based car manufacturer KMC has unveiled a liftback named J7. Touted as the country’s latest production car, it is essentially a clone of the China-made Sehol A5 Plus, which in turn has evolved from the JAC J7.

With the technicalities out of the way, being a clone does not necessarily make it a bad car. The KMC J7 makes use of a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and a DCT box with preselection to drive the front wheels with 172 PS (170 hp / 127 kW). Going from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes eight seconds, and the top speed lies at 210 km/h (130 mph).

The sporty exterior aesthetic leaks into the cabin as well, where there are seats with integrated headrests, a vertical infotainment display and a digital dashboard.
