Kia has unveiled the U.S. version of its new sedan, the K4. It is a successor of sorts to the Cerato model and is currently on display at the NYIAS-2024.
The car is 4,709 mm (184 inches) long and 1,829 mm (71.5 inches) wide. The designers claim that the legroom for the second seat row occupants is the best in class.
On the outside, the headlights are typical Kia fare, but the rear doors with their concealed handles and unusual segmented windows look new. On the whole, the side view is that of a liftback more than a sedan. Even so, the trunk lid lacks a glass section and opens up a luggage area 413 liters (14.6 cubic feet) large.
The interior is typical for all modern Kias. The two dash displays sum up to nearly 30 inches of diagonal size, but physical buttons are still provided for the main multimedia controls and HVAC functions. Depending on the trim level, the steering wheel can have either two or three spokes with a bulky centerpiece. The transmission selector is the same as before.
Even the base trim gets you as many as eight airbags. Higher trim levels ramp up the assist feature count to 29, intelligent collision prevention being among them. Owners will be able to use an NFT key fob or an app on their NFT-enabled phone to unlock the doors and start the engine. Further options include ventilated front seats, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and OTA updates.
In the United States, the four-door model will be offered with a 2.0-liter non-turbo engine and a 1.6-liter turbo. The former option is bundled with a CVT and makes 149 PS (147 hp / 111 kW). The latter uses an eight-speed AT and pushes out 193 PS (190 hp / 142 kW). Opting for the GT-Line package replaces semi-dependent rear suspension with a superior multi-link design and adds unique exterior and interior styling bits. Both powertrains are available in this version.
Sales in the USA will begin in the second half of the year, the company says.
