Mazda3 gets updated in Japan

Mazda has unveiled a new version of its ‘3’ sedan and hatchback in Japan. Neither has changed much on the outside, but both received a number of new tech features, including a larger multimedia screen. Pre-orders are already running with the prices ranging from 2,288,000 to 3,866,500 JPY (17,400–29,400 USD), but the first deliveries will not be made until early summer.

The color palette now has a new shade called Ceramic Metallic. The diagonal size of the infotainment system display has grown from its original 8.8 to 10.25 inches. Illuminated USB-C slots were added alongside a wireless charging pad and wireless Apple CarPlay.

In addition to recognizing cars and infrastructural objects, the new Mazda3 can also detect pedestrians in its latest implementation. There is a driver drowsiness warning on board now, and you can remotely start the engine using the provided mobile app. Last but not least, the car now comes loaded with online-based services and can even dispatch a team to its coordinates should the alarm get triggered.

The engine lineup was last revised in November 2020. It doesn’t look like any more changes were made this time around. The domestic-market Mazda3 comes equipped with e-Skyactiv G 2.0 and e-Skyactiv X 2.0 hybrid powertrains, as well as a 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G petrol engine and a 1.8-liter Skyactiv-D turbo diesel. Regardless of the choice, the transmission is six-speed automatic.
