McLaren reveals the chassis tub to be used by the 720S successor

McLaren has posted the first photos of a chassis to be utilized by a still-unnamed superhybrid that comes to join the Sport Series lineup and likely phase out the 720S model (shown in the video).

The carbon monocoque tub depicted here is called PLT-MCTC-01 and reportedly combines extremely lightweight construction and superb durability. The new design will replace the Monocell tub the British automaker introduced over a decade ago.

McLaren CEO Mark Flewitt said the company wanted to design a hybrid supercar that would weigh no more than a car with a conventional engine. This goal hasn’t been attained yet, but the engineering team came very close at just 40 kg (88 lbs) above the IC version. For reference, the hybrid system of the P1 model added 140 kilos (308 lbs) to its weight.
