The new Mercedes CLE-Class is getting ready for its formal introduction, and in the meantime, car spotters have tracked down a CLE 53 AMG Coupe running around in camo. Here’s what it looks like.
The new CLE will also include a convertible, but it remains to be seen. The test vehicle in the gallery here looks similar to the CLE 63 top spec spotted before, but its quad tailpipes are round instead of square. The cabin is also going to be different, but we won’t see it until the disguise fades.
It is unclear what kind of drivetrain the CLE 53 will ship with. The hotter 63 model will likely share the oily bits with the latest AMG C 63 SE Performance, including a 2.0-liter turbo engine and a rear-mounted electric motor. The combo produces 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW) and 865 Nm (638 lb-ft) of torque. The CLE 53 may wind up with a modified version of the same powertrain.
The upcoming CLE-Class is expected to phase out the C- and E-Class coupe and convertible with a single versatile car lineup based on the MRA-2 architecture of the latest C-Class.
