A new Lego Technic set of 2,891 parts lets you piece together a functional Mercedes-Benz G500 Professional replica with a working engine and transmission.
The official Lego website lists it for $250, and you can already preorder one, but the deliveries won’t start until August 1.
The set is targeted towards grown-up enthusiasts and celebrates 45 years of the Mercedes G-Class. Once assembled, the off-roader has fully functional doors, hood cover and tailgate. There is even an access ladder at the right side leading to a luggage-laden expedition rack. The dimensions are stated as 43 x 20 x 22 cm, which translates into 16.8 x 7.8 x 8.6 inches.
As any other Lego Technic set, this one impresses with its sheer attention to detail. Among other things, the steering wheel and the suspension work as you’d expect them to, the six-cylinder engine has properly implemented pistons, and the transmission allows for AWD mode selection from multiple options.
