This dodgy El Camino pickup is a Mercedes S-Class in disguise

A light passenger pickup styled to resemble the iconic Chevy El Camino is up for grabs on eBay right now, priced at just $11,500. A closer look reveals that it’s a cleverly rebuilt Mercedes-Benz W126. An even closer one makes it clear that major repairs are due.

Starting with a 1981 Mercedes-Benz W126 equipped with an inline-six diesel engine, an uncredited tuner chopped off its rear body, lengthened the overhang and installed a long, shallow truck bed instead of the rear seat row. The result looks fairly solid for a replica, but anyone familiar with the sporty window line of the original ute will immediately realize that it’s not the real thing. Those triangular side windowlets just aren’t authentic enough.

The listing makes no mention of engine output or even mileage, but admits that the “El Benzo” had stood motionless for multiple years. As such, it needs a general overhaul of the powertrain, a new interior and likely some rust removal, too. At least, those gaping panel gaps at the back make us think so. One way or another, whoever decides to buy it will need a clear understanding of the investment required to bring it back on the road.
