Mercedes range-tests the eSprinter, gets 475 km (295 miles)

The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter has not even been properly introduced yet, but the company has already proved its viability by driving it along public roads in Germany and measuring its range in a wide variety of traffic situations.

The point A was at the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart, while the Point B was the Munich Airport. The EV made a return trip, too, alternating between busy city streets, suburban roads and big highways. It also changed altitude a lot, dropping as low as 210 m (690 ft.) and rising as high as 785 m (2,575 ft.) above sea level.

When the trip was complete, the electric van had covered 475 kilometers, or 295 miles, on a single battery charge and still had around 20 km (12.4 miles) worth of charge remaining. An independent observer was sitting next to the driver all along to make sure the test was performed in good faith. The Sprinter EV was optioned with a tall roof and the longest wheelbase, but had no cargo on board.

The company did not reveal the capacity of the traction battery used, but admitted that it was the largest size it was going to offer with the eSprinter. The average power consumption amounted to 21.9 kilowatt-hours per 100 kilometers.
