MG teases a liftback-shaped new EV

MG, a once-British car brand now owned by SAIC Group in China, has posted the first photo of an upcoming four-door EV. It’s still unnamed, but we expect it to debut no later than the Auto China show in April.

According to CarNewsChina, the newcomer most likely represents a fully electric version of the company’s existing MG 7 saloon (see video). Once out and about, it will compete against the likes of the Tesla Model 3 and Xiaomi SU7, the publication claims.

As far as the image allows to see, the car boasts a fairly sporty profile with bulging wheel arches, visible front quarter-panel air vents and flush door handles. It also has what appears to be a LiDAR hump on the roof and LED-based lighting units all around.

The MG 7 is available in China with a 1.5-liter petrol engine rated at 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW) and a larger 2.0-liter mill capable of 261 PS (257 hp / 192 kW). Buyers can choose between six-speed DCT and eight-speed AT for the transmission. Prices range from 137,900 to 178,900 CNY.
