Mitsubishi Airtrek EV debuts in Chongqing

As expected, Mitsubishi revealed its all-electric Airtrek SUV at an ongoing auto show in Chongqing, China. There was no live reveal: only images of the car were shown.

The Airtrek is essentially an Aion V model (see video) modified by the GAC-Mitsubishi joint enterprise. The design team went farther than rebadging, though, endowing the crossover SUV with the signature Dynamic Shield front, headlights, bumpers, and exterior trim pieces. As you can also notice, the hovering roof is gone.

The interior is also original up to the door handles. Popular merged dash displays aren’t present: there are two individual screens with a visor above the digital dash. Other features include a new three-spoke wheel and a stacked transmission tunnel with a new console layout.

Thanks to an even floor and generous spacing between seat rows, the cabin feels nearly as roomy as that of a compact van.

The rest of the details stay secret so far. We know that the Aion V utilizes a single electric motor rated at 184 PS (181 hp / 135 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, and has 600 kilometers (373 miles) of NEDC-rated range. It has no AWD option, is 4,586 mm long, and starts from $28,000 USD in China.

A pre-production Mitsubishi Airtrek is expected to crop up at a live event in the second half of the year.
