Mitsubishi Delica D:5 undergoes another mid-life refresh

The off-roading Delica D:5 van may be 18 years old on its domestic market of Japan, but sparse updates largely allow Mitsubishi to keep it afloat. After the first major update in 2018, the model has now received a major technological upgrade.

To be clear, the old 2.3-liter diesel engine rated at 145 PS (143 hp / 107 kW) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque hasn’t gone anywhere, and the same applies to the eight-speed automatic transmission. Still, the 2026 Delica D:5 takes advantage of the automaker’s all-wheel-drive system called the S-AWC, previously seen on the latest Outlander. It comes with dedicated presets for snow and gravel, upgraded brakes and new 18-inch wheels for optimum off-road performance.

You can recognize the facelift version by its largely chrome-free front grille, rather aggressive “rugged” front bumper with a faux skid plate, and added side trim panels. From what we can tell, all changes here are purely aesthetic and don’t add any actual protection.

Last but not least, the interior enjoys a wider selection of trimming materials including water-repellant Alcantara and comes with an 8-inch digital dash display finally included as standard.

Showrooms in Japan will take delivery of the new Delica in early January 2026. Prices will start from the equivalent of U.S. $28,900 for the base spec.
