Nissan GT-R designer unveils a tiny EV for big cities

Japanese engineering company AIM has unveiled the EVM, a supermini hatchback targeting the residents of megalopolises. It was penned by Shiro Nakamura, former Nissan designer who sketched up the original GT-R and 370Z models. Sales will begin in the summer.

The vehicle is 2,485 mm (97 inches) long and seats two people. It has a small trunk and a couple of removable roof panels, so you could say it’s a Targa of sorts. These panels can be tucked away in a dedicated compartment in the trunk. The rest of the cabin houses a multimedia system with a 7-inch display and two round screens acting as digital instruments.

The whole EV weighs in at just 646 kg (1,424 lbs). It uses a single e-motor rated at 19 PS (19 hp / 14 kW) and 70 Nm (52 lb-ft) of torque for propulsion. A 10-kWh battery pack grants it up to 120 km (75 miles) of range. The top speed doesn’t exceed 60 km/h (37 mph), and charging the battery from a regular power socket takes five hours.

Sales of the AIM EVM will be limited to Okinawa Prefecture, Japan for the time being. Later on, the company hopes to start selling it nationwide. Prices start from ¥1,900,000.
