Nissan Ariya EV bows out of the States, gets refreshed in Japan

The poorly selling Nissan Ariya electric crossover is leaving the United States after 2025, but things are looking up for it on the domestic market.

Specifically, the new Ariya for Japan will arrive in February 2026 priced from the equivalent of U.S. $42,800. Its sported-up Nismo counterpart is scheduled to follow in a month. Let’s see what’s being updated.

Starting at the front end, the bumper is new and the faux grille panel is gone, resulting in a cleaner overall look. The headlights also seem revised, and you can opt for a new off-green exterior finish previously seen on the Leaf EV. As well, customers may go for optional 20-inch alloy wheels overlaid with polymer trims.

The interior stays largely the same, but the electronics on board benefit from the latest “smart” features. For one, the Ariya now analyzes the route to your destination and decides how best to keep the battery temperature stable throughout the trip, maximizing power efficiency. The infotainment system runs on Nissan Connect software with full access to Google services.

On the technical front, we are promised a softer, yet less rolling-prone suspension setup and the ability to outsource up to 1.5kW of electricity to external appliances. The latter function works even with the car unpowered and locked.

Like before, the SUV ships with either one or two e-motors and up to 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW) going to the wheels. Batteries come in 66- and 91-kWh sizes.
