2022 Nissan X-Trail set to ship with a turbo 3-cylinder

Nissan unveiled its Rogue CUV for the USA in June 2020 and has since started selling it, while its twin model – the X-Trail – is only getting ready to debut in other countries. Here are its patent shots along with some info from Dongfeng Nissan.

The China-spec 2022 X-Trail looks identical to the new Rogue except for the bumpers. At 4,681 mm long and 1,840 mm wide, it is 6 mm longer and 20 mm wider than its predecessor is. Wheelbase stays unchanged at 2,706 mm, and the interior is still a mystery.

It is the tech department that offers something new. While the Rogue ships with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine rated at 181 PS (179 hp / 133 kW) and 239 Nm (176 lb-ft) of torque, the new X-Trail packs a turbocharged three-pot good for 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft). The engine comes from the Infiniti QX50 CUV, losing one cylinder in the process. Compression ratios range from 8:1 to 14:1, and the spec sheet mentions AWD.

The smaller engine will make the China-spec X-Trail eligible for tax deductions. As such, it might also come to Europe later on.

Production in China will begin later this spring.
