Nissan brings back Xterra, reveals plans for the next few years

Based on the teaser, the new Xterra off-roader will feature stacked headlights, a bulky radiator grille, a bulging hood cover and amber-tinted DRLs. The company is also developing an all-new petrol V6 for it.

North America will be the first and main market for the new Xterra, the automaker says. It will be available there with petrol and hybrid powertrains to choose from. Later on, the company plans to reuse its body-on-frame platform to produce as many as five new vehicles under Nissan and Infiniti badges. There will even be a new pickup truck among them.

Then again, this isn’t exactly near future we-re talking about here. The Xterra is slated for late 2028 launch, with the other models set to follow later.

At the same time, Nissan expects to discontinue 11 models in North America, trimming its lineup down to 45 models. The specifics are, understandably, undisclosed. In order to stay competitive, the company will bet on refreshing its engine and motor offerings as well as improving all kinds of AI-powered ADAS features.

United States, Canada, Japan and China remain the brand’s primary markets. Nissan says it will be exporting cars made in China to South America, Southeastern Asia and the Middle East region.
