Omoda has introduced its O5 GT sedan, known in some other countries as the S5, in Mexico. The car premiered in China slightly over a year ago and received a mild facelift for the Mexican market.
The main novelty on the outside is a Lexus-style radiator grille. Both the shape and the pattern put us in the mind of Toyota’s premium badge, and slim headlights only serve to accentuate that impression. From the side and the rear end, the car looks largely unchanged.
In its GT flavor, the O5 uses a 1.6-liter turbo engine to drive the front wheels with 197 PS (194 hp / 145 kW) through a preselector DCT. Sprinting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes six seconds. Customers in Mexico gain access to another, more affordable version as well, which has a 1.5T engine and makes 147 PS (145 hp / 108 kW).
Opening a door reveals a black eco-leather cabin with red stitching for contrast. Paying extra unlocks a read-and-orange trim scheme. Standard equipment includes a pair of 10.3-inch displays, heated/ventilated front seats, and a driving assist package.
