Polestar doubles down on electrification

Even as many automakers revise their portfolios to prioritize hybrids over “pure” electric cars, Polestar aspires to launch as many as four new EVs over the next three years – one of them a Taycan rival.

The long-awaited Polestar 5 GT is slated to arrive in showrooms this summer. With a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint time of 3.2 seconds, it will compete in the same niche as the Porsche Taycan.

A new and thoroughly improved Polestar 4 is scheduled to follow in late 2026. Polestar highlights its “extreme utility and value” and claims that it is a part-wagon, part-SUV taking the best of both worlds. Unfortunately, we don’t have any further details on this one.

The next year will begin with the launch of a facelifted Polestar 2. The relatively compact liftback underwent a facelift in mid-2024, so it should be ripe for a bigger update by then. Last but not least, a large SUV known only as the Polestar 7 remains penciled in for 2028. It will specifically target the crowded market of Europe and will be assembled there as well, to appease the local clientele.

Although struggling to stay profitable in the past, Polestar sold more than 60,000 vehicles in 2025, surpassing the result of 2024 by a solid 34%.
