Porsche 911 Sally Special fetches $3.6M, setting a record

Porsche built the 911 Sally Special as an homage to Sally Carrera from Cars, and RM Sotheby’s managed to sell the one-off vehicle for $3,600,000 at the Monterey Car Week a couple of days ago, marking the highest any 992-generation Porsche has ever fetched.

Porsche and Pixar cooperated to bring the Sally Special project to life. In the original animated movie, Sally Carrera was based on the 996-gen body style, but the automaker decided not to geek out on details too much. Rather than making a full copy, the company opted for light styling, badges and plaques, a ‘tattoo’ on the rear engine lid, an authentic body finish and similar-looking wheels.

The auction was attended by Bonnie Lynn Hunt, the voice actress for Sally Carrera, and Bob Pauley, the production designer and creator of the original character.

“What a night and what a result! It’s fantastic to see a car inspired by my character in Cars do so much good,” Hunt commented on the sale, referring to the fact that the proceedings would be donated to charity organizations.

The winning bidder received a Porsche Design watch with Sally Blue metallic inserts, a book detailing the creation process of the unique car, a full-car cover and a spare wheel set mounted on a special storage rack.
