The recently concluded Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge in Monterey, California, had its share of beautiful cars, but this 1988 Porsche 930 Turbo Slant Nose restomod walked away with two awards – People’s Choice and Kids’ Choice.
The tuners who worked on it finished the exterior in an eye-catching pinkish shade called Rubystar, combining it with turquoise accents throughout the body and cabin. They also claim to have swapped the stock 3.3-liter flat-six engine out for a larger 3.5-liter unit that they allegedly boosted to ‘over 850 horsepower’. The actual acceleration was neither measured nor demonstrated.
You may remember that Porsche offered a Slant Nose 911 straight from the factory, but that was only valid for generation 964 cars sold in Japan. This 930 Turbo model was salvaged from a scrapyard with fire and rust damage all around, and restoring it was a major challenge. Perhaps this background is what helped it win the competition.
