The website Worldscoop has posted a single image allegedly depicting the next generation of the Renault Espace, which, as we already know, will be an SUV instead of minivan. The official premiere takes place next Tuesday, March 28.
The current-gen Renault Espace (see video) is being described as a crossover MPV by its manufacturer – and, indeed, it doesn’t look like your regular minivan either on the visual or on the conceptual level. As for the new one, the only thing it appears to have in common with the old one is the seven-seat cabin. Other than that, it looks like a vehicle with an SUV DNA.
In technical terms, however, the new Espace is simply a stretched version of the Renault Austral. It gets 73 mm (2.85 inches) of extra wheelbase and 137 mm (5.35 inches) to its rear overhang, but that’s it for the differences.
The technical aspect remains to be revealed. Rumors claim the base engine will be a 1.2-liter petrol turbo assisted by a mild-hybrid system for 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW) in total.
