RTR tunes up the base Bronco, argues it’s the best one

When shopping for a Ford Bronco, most U.S. off-road enthusiasts are tempted to pick the Raptor version with its powerful 3.0-liter V6. Racing driver Vaughn Gittin-Jr., the founder of RTR, believes that the entry-level 2.3-liter four-pot is a much better fit for the SUV thanks to its lighter weight.

The RTR-tuned Bronco will soon be available via most authorized Ford dealerships in North America. While the engine stays at its stock 279 PS (275 hp / 205 kW), an active cooling fan and an anti-lag system drastically improve its throttle curve, making acceleration easier and more engaging. Furthermore, cornering and flicking (i.e., moving the center of weight on the front axle) becomes easier than it ever could be with a bulky V6 weighing the front down.

On the outside, the RTR Bronco is recognizable by its light grey paint adorned with topographical map patterns and juxtaposed against Lime Green accents. The front bumper is blacked out, the fender flares are slightly larger, and the wheels come wrapped in 33-inch tires by default. Those opting for Ford’s Sasquatch package may go for larger 35-inch tires, along with taking advantage of the company’s latest HOSS 3.0 suspension system.

RTR is currently displaying this Bronco at the Detroit Motor Show, but customer deliveries won’t start until October. Asked about pricing, the company says they “won’t break the bank.”
