Next-gen Subaru Impreza hits the spotlight in the USA

The first generation of the Subaru Impreza came out in the distant year 1992, meaning it is now three decades old. In the meantime, the sixth design iteration has just premiered at the LA Auto Show. The deliveries will begin in spring.

Only the hatchback version has been revealed so far. It utilizes an improved version of the SGP platform offering 10% more torsional rigidity than before. Noise proofing is also superior, the manufacturer says.

LED headlights are now standard in all specs, and the wheels range from 16 to 18 inches large depending on the trim level. The interior resembles that of the WRX or Levorg except for the digital dashboard, which is not available – not even if you pay extra. The infotainment display starts low at 7 inches of diagonal size and only stretches to 11.6 inches in the top specs.

In the USA, the car will ship with its usual 2.0-liter flat-four engine rated at 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW) and 197 Nm (145 lb-ft) of torque. The RS modification will take advantage of a 2.5-liter mill capable of 188 PS (185 hp / 138 kW) and 241 Nm (178 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission type is CVT in both cases.
