Next-gen Suzuki Across for the EU is a blatantly rebadged RAV4

The first generation of the mid-size crossover known as the Suzuki Across came out in 2020, packing Toyota RAV4 engine and tech under revised looks. The second generation is out now – and Suzuki didn’t even bother with the looks this time around.

Everything about the SUV screams RAV4. The badges say Suzuki, and that’s about the only way to tell that it’s supposed to be the new Across. The body dimensions are almost all the same, as is the interior layout. There’s a 12.9-inch digital dashboard inside, a 12.9-inch infotainment screen and an optional HUD. Further equipment includes adaptive cruise control, emergency brake, lane control, heated first-row seats etc.

In Europe, the new Suzuki Across is currently only available with one plug-in hybrid powertrain. It comprises a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, a couple of electric motors, a CVT and a 22.7-kWh traction battery. The peak power output amounts to 304 PS (300 hp / 224 kW). Range and pricing remain to be revealed.

If you are confused, it’s worth noting that there’s another SUV that Suzuki sells under its “Across” nameplate – the rebadged Suzuki Victoris manufactured in India. It is mainly found on the emerging markets, whereas the RAV4 clone that debuted this week remains Europe-only.
