The one-off Toyota Crown cabriolet seen here will never reach production, but it should give us an idea what the company has been working on recently.
As you can see, the car lacks an entire roof including b- and c-pillars, as well as all side window frames. To compensate for the missing tailgate, the trunk area was covered with a rather slick-looking plastic lid.
Designing a complex folding mechanism for the roof was deemed too expensive, so Toyota left the car without a top of any kind. It also left the light beige leather interior and hybrid powertrain alone, so the unique cabriolet still pushes 349 PS (344 hp / 257 kW) to the wheels.
At a ceremony that took place before the Grand Sumo event in Japan a few weeks ago, the automaker unveiled a topless Toyota Century (see video). That one was gifted to a sumo team as a parade vehicle. It had a redesigned rear seat row and also lacked a roof of any kind.
