Toyota has upgraded its Texas factory to produce the third generation of its Sequoia SUV, formerly assembled in Indiana. The investment reportedly amounted to $391,000,000.
The new industrial site currently employs over 2,600 staff. An adjacent assembly line continues piecing together the Toyota Tundra – the pickup has been the staple product of the factory since 2006.
According to the President of Toyota Texas, the company endeavors to become carbon-neutral in the wake of the EV era. The addition of the Sequoia to the product range of the Texas site is a point of pride for the company.
The new off-roader comes equipped with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine assisted by an electric motor. The system churns out 443 PS (437 hp / 326 kW) and 790 Nm (583 lb-ft) of torque to a ten-speed automatic transmission. The 2WD version starts from $59,795, while going for 4WD will set you back $79,795 before options.
