VW Caddy hybrid spied testing

Car spotters have tracked down a new version of the Volkswagen Caddy light van driven around somewhere in Spain. It was a camo-free passenger version of the van with a PHEV drivetrain, as evidenced by the two lids on the left side (one for the fuel tank, the other one for the charging port).

Earlier rumors claimed that the new Caddy would be powered by the same system as the latest Golf, namely a TSI four-cylinder and a single electric motor together rated at 245 PS (242 hp / 180 kW) Another theory was that Volkswagen would want to replace the 1.4-liter engine with a superior 1.5-liter variant.

As for the battery, the general expectation is such that the van will run no farther than 60 km (37 miles) in all-electric mode. This is the European cycle we are talking about here.

The fact that the Caddy PHEV was spotted with barely any camo to speak of tell us that the automaker is almost ready to reveal it in full.
