Engine tuning can turn the most mundane city hatchback imaginable into a genuine sports car killer – and the video below provides ample proof to the fact.
Before we begin, it’s worth pointing out that the base VW Polo Diesel can be obtained in Europe for just under €21,000. The example in the video is anything but stock, though – it features improved injection, a new camshaft, an enlarged turbo and upsized intake/exhaust pipes. All of the above comes together to let the tame 1.9-liter TDI mill under the hood hit the wheels with 371 PS (366 hp / 273 kW) and 587 Nm (433 lb-ft) of torque.
Most would be satisfied with performance like that, but the owner felt he could use a nitrous oxide system in his city hatch. After a few more dyno launch attempts, he ultimately managed to get 520 PS (513 hp / 382 kW) and 865 Nm (638 lb-ft) out of it. For a bit of perspective, that’s more than the entry-level Porsche 911 has with 385 PS (380 hp / 283 kW).
The car was allowed to stay mostly stock on the outside, while the interior was stripped clean of all unnecessary equipment, suggesting that the owner had serious intentions in mind for it.
