Well-kept, tuned Nissan R33 GT-R crops up on sale

When it celebrated the 40th birthday of its highly successful Skyline GT-R lineup in 1997, Nissan contracted its in-house tuner Autech to come up with an anniversary edition. It emerged in a sedan body and enjoyed a 416-unit production run. One of these rare sports cars is currently up for grabs for $78,500.

It is understood that the R33 GT-R Autech sedan is largely identical to its coupe-shaped sibling in all things technical. In particular, it features the same iconic RB26DETT four-banger built to deliver OEM-rated 280 PS (276-hp / 206 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque to the rear end via a five-speed manual gearbox. Despite the two added doors, the car weighs barely more than 1,500 kilos (3,300 pounds), meaning its dynamic performance stays on par with that of the coupe.

The example currently listed on JDM Expo is 27 years old and has just under 58,000 kilometers (36,000 miles) under its belt. The seller points out certain aftermarket modifications, including an engine stroked out to 2.8 liters of displacement, a better turbocharger, and a new exhaust system. The suspension makes use of Trust components, and the 18-inch Volk Racing wheels aren’t stock, either. The listing fails to mention how much different the tuned Autech GT-R feels on the road, so buyers will have to find out themselves.
