Report: Xiaomi prepares a trio of EVs for launch

According to CNEVpost citing unofficial sources, the IT-giant-turned-automaker Xiaomi is getting as many as three new vehicles ready to rumble. One of these is all-new, while the other two are modifications of the existing models.

Families will appreciate to know that a full-size crossover SUV is coming to the lineup. Allegedly called the YU9, it can be optioned with a six-seat or seven-seat cabin. To keep the range up, Xiaomi apparently plans to equip it with a serial-hybrid/range-extender powertrain. Once out and about, the YU9 will compete with such domestic flagships as the Aito M9 and the Lixiang L9.

In turn, a super-SUV known as the YU7 GT will try to challenge the dominance of the Tesla Model Y Plaid. As such, it may get upwards of 1,014 PS (1,000 hp / 747 kW). CNEVpost claims it will be running Nürburgring track tests before going into production and will be mainly offered in Europe, where smaller-sized performance SUVs like the standard YU7 enjoy brisk sales (see video).

Last but not least, we are told that the brand’s firstborn sedan, the SU7, is underway to receiving a long-wheelbase variant called the L. The insiders say it is roughly 200 mm (8 inches) longer than stock for maximum comfort of those sitting in the middle and the back rows. This is not to imply that the standard SU7 model with its 4,997 mm (195.2 inches) of body length is cramped, of course.

Prototypes of all three models are currently running road tests in China, or so we are told. All official details and specs will have to wait.
