Xpeng P7 hits a new endurance record

Xpeng has reported a new record set by its P7 model on a local racetrack. The liftback has covered 3,961 kilometers (2,461 miles) within 24 hours, barely dethroning the Xiaomi YU7 by 17 kilometers (10 miles).

The racing protocol for this competition category implies driving on a closed loop circuit at the highest possible speed with only brief stops to charge up the car and change the driver. It lasts for 24 hours and is intended as an evaluation of the car’s robustness and breakdown resistance.

Although the P7 is now recognized as the champion of the Changchun track in China, it took the car two attempts to get there. The first attempt was aborted by Xpeng when a downpour started, drenching the track. As soon as it was dry enough again, the car returned and proceeded to set the record.

According to the manufacturer’s manual, the P7 consumes 12 kilowatt-hours of energy per 100 kilometers traveled. 10 minutes spent charging at a powerful enough point replenishes enough for 525 km (326 miles) of range. The total range amounts to 820 km (509.5 miles).

Before the P7 broke the record, it belonged to a Xiaomi YU7 Max. The electric supercar needed 30 charge-ups during the trial and traveled at a cool average acceleration of 210 km/h (130 mph). The records are officially recognized by CATARC, the China Automotive Technology & Research Center.
