Lamborghini announces an extreme Urus build based on the ST-X Concept

Lamborghini has begun working on a hardcore modification of its Urus luxury SUV. The new vehicle will be based on the ST-X Concept, an SUV/racecar prototype that will participate in the marque’s one-make racing series starting in 2020.

According to Lambo’s technical CEO, the engineer team will use the experience it gained while working on the ST-X to design the super-powered Urus. This likely refers to the technological solutions used to increase the structural rigidity of the car body while minimizing its weight.

The ST-X SUV/racecar concept debuted in 2018. Based on a street-legal car, it was stripped of most of its noise proofing and equipment, resulting in a 25% reduction in weight.

The standard Urus comes powered by a 4.0-liter V8 mill churning out 650 hp (485 kW) along with 850 Nm (627 lb×ft) of torque. It only needs 3.6 seconds to get going at 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill, and may ultimately exceed 300 km/h (186 mph) going in a straight line.
