Video: the Chery Ant is an EV in an all-aluminum body

Chinese automaker Chery will soon launch its newest battery SUV, the Ant, on the domestic market – and later outside of the country as well. Let us see what it has on offer.

The utility vehicle stands out from the crowd quite a bit thanks to an exterior design by Pininfarina. The Italian coachbuilder endows it with a sporty-looking front, an elegant fold on the doors, and LED lights throughout. A panel adorned with a wind-turbine pattern assumes the place of the conventional radiator grille.

Inside, the main features are the dashboard and multimedia screens combined into one, a wide center tunnel, touch-based climate controls, electric sunroof and leather upholstery.

Powering the EV is a single electric motor good for 178 hp (133 kW) and 280 Nm (207 lb-ft) of torque. The traction battery grants it up to 510 kilometers (317 miles) of range, according to the manufacturer.

Features include a Level 2 self-drive system assisted by 20 sensors, adaptive cruise control, parking assist, head-on collision prevention, bling zone monitoring, and lane control.

Prices remain undisclosed, but rumors place the base trim not far above U.S. $30,000.
