Paul Halstead announces the W16-based Hyperod racer

Automotive designer Paul Halstead seems determined to launch the Hyperod, his dream hypercar/hot rod crossbreed lacking doors and glass, but packing a mighty W16 welded from two seven-liter Chevrolet LS7 V8 mills.

According to the project description, both engines will be supercharged and send their combined momentum to the wheels through a racing-grade six-speed sequential transmission. The sixteen-cylinder powertrain should be able to churn out 1,400 hp (1,044 kW).

The car comes based on a carbon-fiber chassis with composite external paneling and an exposed engine bay. The low windshield will allow a peek at the shock absorbers and pother suspension components.

Paul Halstead’s best known work so far is the Giocattolo Group B (see video). The supercar hit 100 km/h faster than the Ferrari 348 and came powered by a 5.0-liter V8 (335 hp / 250 kW) linked to a ZF five-speed transmission.

The Hyperod should come into the spotlight in July 2022.
