Meet the Sbarro Super Eight, a three-door hatchback with the Ferrari heart

An ultra-rare vehicle is up for grabs in Belgium right now: called the Sbarro Super Eight, it was conceptualized and built by Swiss designer Franco Sbarro for the 1984 Geneva International Motor Show.

The car has a three-door hatchback body style, uses the Ferrari 308 GTB chassis and powertrain and evokes associations with Group B homologation vehicles.

Back in 1982, Sbarro released a bespoke hatchback called Super Twelve. It packed an odd twelve-cylinder engine welded together from two 1.3-liter Kawasaki bike motors. The one-off was deemed too exotic and never received a road license. Realizing he needed to tone things down, Sbarro came up with the Super Eight.

The car uses the abovementioned Ferrari’s 2.9-liter V8, chassis and five-speed manual transmission. It boasts a GFRP body and weighs in at around 800 kilograms (1,760 lbs). the power rating is 265 PS (261 hp / 195 kW), and the top speed lies close to 210 km/h (130 miles per hour). The cabin makes use of fabric upholstery, caramel-tinted leather and mats, a Clarion audio system and a Momo steering wheel.

The seller claims the Sbarro Super Eight is road-legal in Netherlands and Germany. It has slightly over 26,000 km (16,155 miles) on the clock, and you will need to contact the seller directly for pricing.
