Nissan X-Trail bows in China with a powerful 3-cyl. engine, Europe next in line

Following the premiere of the new Nissan Rogue in the USA ten months ago, the Japanese automaker has now revealed a variant of it named X-Trail for Europe and China.

The Chinese specification boasts extra bumper details and anti-fog taillights. There is a new infotainment display in the cabin, but the rest of the interior appears to be unchanged from stock. This includes the sawn-off steering wheel, the digital dash cluster and the CVT joystick.

While the Rogue got to keep its 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, the X-Trail received a turbocharged three-cylinder instead rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque. All-wheel drive will be available at a premium, and a hybrid version is set to arrive later.

Sales in China will start later this year, while customers in Europe will have to wait until summer 2022.
