Aston Martin rolls out the Valkyrie Spider

Work on the Aston Martin Valkyrie project started five years ago with shipments set to begin in 2018 and all 150 units sold in pre-orders, but the car took its time to arrive. The track-ready Valkyrie AMR Pro only debuted earlier this summer, and its open-top Spider version follows up now.

The supercar features a removable top and butterfly-wing doors instead of the usual gull-wing ones. With its top raised, the roadster looks nearly indistinguishable from the coupe, and weighs barely more than the coupe does.

The hybrid powertrain still consists of a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated Cosworth V12 capable of 11,000 RPM and Rimac electric motors joining their efforts for 1,155 PS (1,139 hp / 850 kW). Top speed lies as high as 330 km/h (205 mph) with the top removed and climbs to 350 km/h (217 mph) with it on, making the Valkyrie Spider the fastest-going Aston Martin in history to boast a license plate.

A total of 85 units will be produced with right- and left-hand steering, although the company reported having registered more pre-orders than that. The first cars will be delivered in the second quarter of 2022, Aston Martin claims.

The car is exhibited live at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 12-15, 2021, but only guests with a special invitation are admitted for a close look.
