Beijing BJ60 gets a diesel option in China

BAIC Group has expanded the engine lineup of its Beijing BJ60 model by adding a new mild-hybrid diesel option, AutoHome reports. The mill has been designed in the house and outfitted with a 48V starter generator.

There has been no mention of an availability date or pricing so far. We know on official terms that the engine was designed by BAIC engineers and is considered to be next-generation. It makes active use of parts from Bosch and VGT, has direct injection and offers a thermal efficiency of 41%.

The output amounts to 163 PS (161 hp / 120 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. Nothing is said about the transmission, so we assume it uses the same eight-speed automatic as the gas-powered BJ60. BAIC does mention a part-time AWD system being available for this model, which uses a hard coupling for the front axle.
