BMW recalls nearly 60k cars in the US due to fire risks

According to the NHTSA, more than 59,000 owners of BMW M5 & M5 Touring, i5 & i7, and 550e & 750e models may encounter an issue with a flat cable in the HVAC unit that may potentially lead to it short-circuiting and bursting into flames.

Most vehicles made from 2023 to this year are affected. The issue may occur during HVAC air filter replacement. Although the automaker reckons only one car in every 1,000 is affected, it’s impossible to determine in your garage. This basically means you’ll have to visit your nearest service center for a checkup and possible replacement.

BMW claims it isn’t aware of any complaints or injuries potentially linked with this defect.
