The large and pricy BYD Song Plus and its junior sibling Song Pro headed the sales charts in China in 2022. One may think the manufacturer will want to avoid changing the formula, but BYD seems open to experimentation.
The 2024 Song Plus SUV has received some nip-and-tuck that saw its entire front end redesigned from the fenders through the headlights to the hood. The rear end appears less changed, but the taillights and the bumper are still new. Inside, the transmission tunnel looks different and the top trim level benefits from a new 15.6-inch infotainment display.
The Song Plus is a model available exclusively in hybrid and all-electric forms. The former category used to ship with 8.3-kWh and 18.3-kWh batteries, but the smaller one has been removed and a new 26.6-kWh option has been added.
The EV also received its share of upgrades, including a more power-efficient motor rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft) of torque. Those who feel that they need more may consider a new flagship spec offering 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and 87 kilowatt-hours of electric juice (up to 605 km / 375 miles of range per charge).
