New Cadillac XT5 revealed in China

After its introduction nine years ago and just one facelift in 2019, the Cadillac XT5 is finally steeping into its second generation. It has now been revealed in China as a larger and more technologically advanced alternative to the old version. The launch date and the pricing remain to be announced.

We have seen the exterior of the new XT5 on patent pics submitted in China in early 2024. The SUV was registered as being 4,888 mm (191 inches) long, 1,957 mm (76.5 in) wide and 1,698 mm (66.3 in) tall with 2,863 mm (111.9 in) between the axles. As such, it is considerably larger than the old generation but with only 6 mm (0.23 inches) of added wheelbase. The trunk size is 653 liters, or 23 cubic feet.

Design-wise, the new XT5 features a fine mesh grille, slimmer-looking headlights based on Matrix LEDs, reworked bumpers at both ends and a new set of 21-inch wheels.

The interior is dominated by a single 33-inch display with 9K resolution, eliminating the need for separate dash/infotainment screens. The three-spoke steering wheel is also new and offers both physical and capacitive controls. The transmission tunnel has been reshaped, too. The front seats now have heating, ventilation, massage and memory functions in the standard spec. Ambient lighting and an AKG audio system are also included.

Seven years ago, the Cadillac XT5 became the American company’s first mild-hybrid vehicle in China. The second generation has retained the same hybrid system based on a 20-liter turbo four-cylinder engine and a 48V starter-generator. It delivers 237 PS (234 hp / 174 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive comes standard and AWD is a paid option.
