Changan CS55 Plus now available in PHEV flavor

The Changan CS55 Plus (also known as the Uni-S) originally debuted in China as a petrol car, but the company has now revealed a hybrid alternative. It packs 1,220 km (758 miles) of range and is the most expensive version in the lineup with a starting price of 112,900 Chinese Yuan.

The new powertrain is of a plug-in hybrid type and combines a 1.5-liter Blue Whale-series engine with a single electric motor. The engine delivers a modest 95 PS (94 hp / 70 kW) with 126 Nm (93 lb-ft) of torque, while the motor contributes a solid 215 PS (212 hp / 158 kW) along with 330 Nm (243 lb-ft). An 18.4-kWh battery pack composed of LFP cells grants it up to 125 kilometers (77.7 miles) of range per charge.

On the outside, you won’t be able to tell the Changan CS55 Plus PHEV from its gas-powered counterpart unless you spot the charging port above the rear left fender. The rest of the exterior, including the radiator grille, the bumpers and the lighting, corresponds to that of the facelifted CS55 Plus. The same goes for the interior, which houses a 10.25-inch digital dash display and a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen merged into a single unit.
