The Changan Hunter EREV is a range-extender truck for China

Changan has launched an electric version of its Hunter pickup introduced in late 2023. According to Car News China, the standard-length truck comes in eight trims to choose from and costs between 139,900 and 216,900 Yuan; the long-wheelbase version starts just 1,000 Yuan above that.

The trims called Warrior Edition Deluxe, Knight Edition Pilot Type, Knight Edition Flagship, and Armor Edition are all obtainable in single-motor/RWD and dual-motor/AWD flavors. The default motor sits at the rear axle and pushes it with 177 PS (175 hp / 130 kW), while the extra motor contributes 95 PS (94 hp / 70 kW) of its own.

Both versions utilize a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW) to keep their 31.18-kWh LiFePo4 battery from running out. If you go in all-electric mode, Changan says you may be able to make up to 180 km (112 miles) by the CLTC standard until the battery runs out. With the engine running and the gas tank full, you can get up to 1,031 km (640 miles) regardless of the motor count, the company claims.

The truck is sized 5,380 mm (210.2 inches) long, 1,930 mm (75.4 in) wide and 1,885 mm (73.6 in) tall with 3,180 mm (124.2 in) between the axles. The long-wheelbase variant has the same width and height, but is 5,630 mm (220 in) long with 3,430 mm (134 in) of wheelbase. The entire extra length goes into the truck bed, so the dual cab stays the same.

A peek inside the cab reveals a three-spoke steering wheel with a transmission selector nearby, and a 7.5-inch digital dash screen merged with a 12-inch infotainment display. Depending on your chosen trim level, the car comes equipped with cruise control, sat-nav, heated leather seats, a voice assistant, a wireless phone charger, and an audio system with either four or six speakers.
