Dodge has shared a teaser pic of a sedan slated to arrive in Mexico this fall. It will reuse the company’s “Attitude” nameplate in South America but will be based on a GAC vehicle for China, Autocosmos reports.
The report is unofficial so far, but everything seems to corroborate it. In particular, the car in the picture looks almost indistinguishable from the GAC Trumpchi Empow model sold in China and select Latin American countries (see video). It does exhibit minimal differences, and may get an aggressive aero kit in the top trim version, but that’s about it.
Based on the above, Dodge will most likely launch the new Attitude with a 1.5-liter turbo engine rated at 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW) and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Once out and about, it will compete against the likes of Honda Civic, Volkswagen Jetta and Hyundai Elantra.
The previous Dodge Attitude generation wasn’t a “pure” Dodge, either – it was a rebadged Mitsubishi Mirage. Right now, the company’s Mexico lineup of vehicles also includes an SUV called Dodge Journey, which is essentially just a localized GAC GS5 from China.
