GAC Aion i60 goes on sale in China

Aion, a GAC Group company, has opened preorders for its new SUV called the i60. Despite sharing some of its hardware with the Toyota bZ3X, it isn’t exclusively an EV but also a hybrid.

Buyers are choosing from two hybrid variants and four EV modifications. Prices start from 109,800 Yuan and peak at 135,800 Yuan (U.S. $15,450–19,100).

The body proportions, the shoulder line and the curvature of the sides strongly resemble those of the bZ3X. At the same time, the Aion i60 boasts an original front fascia and measures slightly larger than the Toyota at 4,685 x 1,854 x 1,660 millimeters with 2,775 mm of wheelbase. In fact, it is larger than the Aion V model that it is officially supposed to replace on the domestic market. The trunk size maxes out at 967 liters (34.15 cubic feet) with some seats folded.

Only a few powertrain specs have been revealed so far. The EV will ship with either 530 or 650 kilometers of range, the latter unlockable with an optional 75.26-kWh battery pack. The hybrid will utilize a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine alongside a single e-motor. Delivering a combined 345 PS (340 hp / 254 kW), they will get you as far as 1,240 km (770 miles) before charging and refueling become necessary. The all-electric range of this version is manufacturer-estimated at 210 km (130 miles).

More details should follow in the coming days or weeks.
