Meet the Porsche 911 GT3 S/C, a manual, turbo-free Porsche cabriolet

Porsche has formally introduced the new 911 GT3 S/C in the United States. It’s a convertible with a six-speed manual transmission, rear-wheel drive and supercar-like performance. Sales start this autumn, with the minimum price slightly above $275,000.

Using lighter materials all around enabled Porsche to keep the weight down to 1,497 kilograms (3,300 pounds). Carbon-ceramic brakes, magnesium alloy wheels and carbon-fiber body panels all contributed to this result. With these modern features in place, the GT3 S/C can easily afford its power-assisted droptop, which only takes 12 seconds to raise with a push of a single button.

A peek inside the engine bay reveals a 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated flat-six engine revving up to 9,000 RPM. Like the main 911 GT3 spec, it is tuned to deliver 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) to the rear end. Sprinting from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 3.9 seconds, and the top speed lies at an impressive 313 km/h (194 mph).

The interior greets the owner with such retro niceties as an actual ignition lock and key, as opposed to a button. Carbon-backed seats and extra storage boxes to compensate for the lack of trunk space are provided as options. The transmission lever can be trimmed with nutwood, and the dash can be draped with natural leather.

Last but not least, all 911 GT3 S/C buyers become eligible for a luxury wristwatch designed by Porsche Design with a titanium body and a GT3-style face. This separate purchase is available exclusively to the owners of the convertible.
