Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi reveal their strategy for the next few years

The three automotive companies have announced a restructuring of their alliance coming soon and an expansion of their businesses to many developing markets, where they plan to launch an affordable pickup truck soon, among other highlights. In Europe, the trio plans to intensify EV production and ensure that up to 80% of all vehicles are made on its proprietary tech shared between all brands.

The Renault 5 and an all-electric Nissan car based on the same tech are scheduled for market launch in Europe soon. The still-unnamed Nissan, the photos of which you can find in the gallery below, saved the Japanese automaker 40% of the usual development costs thanks to being based on third-party tech. This new Nissan car will go into production at the Renault factory in France and will eventually phase out the old Micra hatchback.

The Renault Clio will soon be cloned as the Mitsubishi Colt, just like the Renault Captur has already provided the basis for the new Mitsubishi ASX.

In Latin America, the alliance will introduce a half-ton pickup truck marketed a step below the latest Nissan Frontier and Renault Alaskan. It will be made in Argentina and sold under both badges mentioned above. A mysterious new EV is set to debut in the region later with Renault/Nissan branding, too. For the first time in around two decades, Nissan will launch its factory lines in Mexico to produce a new Renault car (also unspecified).

India is highlighted as one of the biggest priorities for the alliance, which plans on launching a wide range of Renault-based, Nissan-based vehicles there in the coming years. The only vehicle described in any detail, however, is a crossover SUV based on the same platform as the compact-sized Triber.

In the light commercial vehicles segment of the market, the three automakers plan to join efforts in EV design and production.
